As such, all other administrators will be stepping down as well.
However, there is no need for concern as Abel will be returning to her role as vice president of Academic Affairs.
In that role she works with the other vice-presidents, deans and department chairs to make sure that everyone is on the same page as to changes in curriculum.
Abel sits on the District Curriculum Committee and works with the university administrations. Glendale Community College (GCC) is a transfer institution and it is imperative that GCC's curriculum is aimed toward preparing students to transfer to universities.
While the faculty ultimately controls the curriculum, Abel helps set changes in motion. She also works with the department chairs on district policy and procedural changes.
She keeps everyone informed on new initiatives, such as new programs and modifications to existing programs.
For new faculty members, Abel performs classroom evaluations. This is also done by the appropriate deans and department chairs, in addition to herself. Abel will sit through one complete classroom session and perform a review of the teaching style and course content.
While the title changes, her work load does not. She will still participate in many of the same meetings that the president does; however, she will attend some meetings that the president does not.
The hours Abel spends on campus aren't likely to change either; she will still participate in many community events that relate to the college. She also likes to volunteer in community projects.
GCC supports the Regional Public Safety Training Center. GCC is representing the interests of all of the West Valley colleges.
Whenever there is a student event, the administration makes an effort to attend. Some of these events include Homecoming as well as Phi Theta Kappa and honors events.
