Emotions ran high as Dr. Phil Randolph gave his closing speech at his retirement reception last week.

Several members of the campus and community spoke to share memories and thoughts of GCC's outgoing president, including former President Dr. John Waltrip and City of Glendale Mayor, Elaine M. Scruggs.
Several members of GCC's faculty and staff also spoke, among them Faculty Senate President Carmela Arnoldt and Master of Ceromonies Jim Reed.

The celebration began with the attendees gathering to enjoy refreshments and take their seats. Then Dr. Reed proceeded to welcome all to the event and began to introduce the different speakers throughout the afternoon.

MCC District Chancellor Dr. Rufus Glasper, gave a humorous and touching video speech since he could not be present.
Senior Human Resources Analyst James Morris sang an aucapella spoof of Frank Sinatra's "My Way," and a tribute on gutiar from Economy Professor Hannes Kvaran.

As the program went along, many gifts were presented to Randolph, such as a pen and pencil set from the GCC Alumni Association and a donation of $5,000 in his name for a scholarship from the faculty.
He also received a trophy from the Adjunct Faulty for first place in the "GCC 500" with a little race car on top which reads, "Thanks for going the extra mile for us."

The event ended with Dr. Randolph giving his closing speech, in which he spoke of his memories and friends he has made during his 33 years with the district.

He also announced the retirement of his Administrative Assistant Roxie Helbert who has been with MCCD for 23 years, three of those years working as Dr. Randolph's assistant.
